7-Eleven is launching discounted Slurpee promotions this summer, but Charlotte-area customers must join the chain's loyalty program to access the $1 happy hour deals.

As temperatures rise across the Charlotte region, 7-Eleven is rolling out its annual summer beverage strategy with aggressive pricing on its iconic Slurpee product. According to Fast Company, the convenience chain will introduce a "Slurpee Drink Happy Hour" leading up to the company's flagship Slurpee Day celebration on July 11, offering large Slurpees for just $1—but with a notable caveat for local consumers.

The promotion requires customers to be enrolled in either 7-Eleven's 7Rewards or Speedway Rewards loyalty programs to participate. The happy hour runs from 3 to 6 p.m. on weekdays through August 25 at select Charlotte-area locations, giving afternoon shoppers a defined window to take advantage of the pricing. For those not yet signed up, enrollment is free through the 7-Eleven or Speedway mobile apps.

Beyond the headline Slurpee discount, the chain is layering additional incentives to drive traffic and loyalty program adoption. An exclusive Arizona Iced Tea Blue Raspberry Slurpee flavor will be available through summer, while rewards members can purchase Big Gulps for 59 cents. The company is also reviving its Slurpee Truck with a national sweepstakes beginning June 24, allowing app users and in-store purchasers to enter for chances to visit the branded truck.

For Charlotte business readers tracking convenience retail trends, 7-Eleven's strategy reflects the broader industry shift toward using loyalty programs as both a customer acquisition tool and data-gathering mechanism. The time-limited, members-only promotion model incentivizes app downloads while creating predictable afternoon foot traffic during slower dayparts—a tactic increasingly common among QSR and c-store chains competing for consumer engagement.
