Charlotte Douglas International Airport has been awarded $46.9 million in federal funding from the Federal Aviation Administration to support a major apron expansion project. The grant is part of a larger $523 million FAA allocation distributed across 332 airports nationwide, underscoring the federal government's commitment to modernizing aviation infrastructure across the country.
The apron expansion project addresses critical operational needs at CLT, one of the Southeast's busiest aviation hubs. An expanded apron—the paved area where aircraft park, load, and unload—will improve gate efficiency, reduce aircraft congestion, and enhance operational flexibility as passenger traffic and cargo demands continue to grow at the Charlotte region's primary airport.
