The City of Charlotte has launched a preventive maintenance initiative that applies Plus-Ti, a specialized treatment designed to protect asphalt from the intense summer heat that accelerates pavement deterioration. According to WCNC Charlotte, the product functions similarly to sunscreen for roads, creating a protective barrier that absorbs harmful UV rays and airborne pollutants that would otherwise degrade the surface.

The program addresses a significant operational challenge for local municipalities: pothole formation and pavement failure during Charlotte's hot, humid summers. By slowing the oxidation and degradation process, the Plus-Ti treatment could reduce the frequency and cost of reactive repairs, allowing the city's transportation budget to be allocated more efficiently toward preventive infrastructure maintenance rather than emergency pothole patching.
