The University of Arkansas at Monticello recently celebrated the achievements of its graduating class during spring commencement exercises held May 8 at Steelman Field House. According to the institution, the ceremony recognized graduates across multiple degree levels, from associate degrees through master's programs. The event was structured as two separate ceremonies to accommodate the number of graduates and attendees, with sessions at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
During the commencement exercises, university leadership acknowledged both the accomplishments of graduating students and the contributions of faculty members. Dr. Peggy Doss, chancellor of UAM, presided over the ceremonies and highlighted the significance of the milestone for graduates transitioning into their professional careers. The recognition of students completing advanced degrees underscores the importance of graduate education in workforce development across regions.
The university also used the spring commencement as an opportunity to announce its 2026 Hornaday Faculty Award winner, recognizing distinguished teaching excellence and service to the institution. Such awards highlight the role that dedicated educators play in shaping student success and institutional reputation. The selection of outstanding faculty members serves as a benchmark for academic excellence within higher education.
Additionally, the university announced its 64th Distinguished Alumna during the ceremonies, honoring a graduate who has demonstrated significant professional achievement and contribution to their field. These recognition programs reflect the broader importance that universities place on celebrating both current student success and the long-term impact of their alumni networks. Such honors help strengthen connections between institutions and the professionals they've trained.
