South Korea's state-owned Korea Electric Power Corp. has secured a $1.4 billion contract to design, build, and operate a cogeneration power plant for Saudi Arabia's Jafurah natural gas development. According to OilPrice, the deal represents Phase 2 of the massive project, which is expected to require $100 billion in total investment over its lifecycle.

The facility will be a 331-megawatt cogeneration plant capable of producing approximately 465 tons of steam per hour when operational by June 2029. KEPCO will not only construct the installation but also operate it for 17 years, providing both electricity and steam to Saudi Aramco to support the Jafurah field's production needs.

The contract highlights the global scale of energy infrastructure projects and the competitive landscape for industrial power solutions. Large-scale cogeneration facilities like this are critical for optimizing operational efficiency in major oil and gas developments, where both power and thermal energy are essential to production.

For Charlotte-area energy and industrial services companies, deals of this magnitude underscore the ongoing international demand for specialized power generation expertise and long-term operational partnerships. The project demonstrates how energy sector growth continues to drive capital investment and infrastructure development globally.
