According to Utility Dive, Southwestern Public Service has received a $113 million grant from the Texas Energy Fund, positioning the utility among beneficiaries of the state's broader grid reliability initiative. The Texas Energy Fund, which has distributed more than $4 billion across various projects, aims to strengthen the resilience of Texas's power infrastructure amid growing demand pressures.
The award to SPS will support the implementation of advanced technologies focused on infrastructure monitoring and maintenance. The funding covers a drone-based pole inspection program designed to identify potential equipment failures and structural vulnerabilities more efficiently than traditional methods, as well as real-time monitoring systems to track grid performance continuously.
This investment reflects Texas's strategic approach to preventing outages and maintaining system stability as the state continues to experience weather extremes and increased electricity consumption. By modernizing inspection and monitoring capabilities, SPS aims to reduce downtime and improve service reliability across its service territory.
